What is Acupuncture?
An acupuncture treatment is carried out by inserting fine needles into the skin at specific points in the body. These points are located along channels or meridians where our life energy (Qi) flows.
In order to be healthy our Qi must flow freely, nourishing our internal organs, tissues, and bones. If it becomes blocked, or deficient, we may start to feel unwell. Points are carefully chosen for each individual person in order to maintain the smooth flow of Qi making the patient feel more balanced, and healthy.
Acupuncture takes an holistic approach and treats the whole person; body, mind and spirit, the main aim being to restore a person’s equilibrium. We are all leading more and more stressful lives that upset our body’s natural balance and we may start to fell unwell either physically or emotionally. An unhealthy physical condition which causes pain and tension is a state of imbalance and can affect someone’s mental health.
Similarly, emotional stress can impact on a person’s physical state.
Each of us are individuals and therefore have different resistances and susceptibilities to infections, disease, and everyday life which affect our general health. An acupuncturist will look at each person’s life path and treat accordingly. Two woman being treated for painful periods could be treated completely differently depending on the root cause of their condition.
